Our nightmare begins 4 months ago. My father has had Leukemia since 1990. He has always been an active man. He was everyones fix it man he could do anything. Even with Leukemia he would never let it get him down.
He had to start taking Leukemia pills just last several years, and did wounderfull with them. His doctor did not start these pills until his white count hit 150,000. He would take his normal 10 pills for 4 days every couple of months. 4 months ago my dads white count went up to 56,000 well his doctor decided to have him take his regular 10 pills for the 4 days then take 40 pills all in one drink at the last day.
My dad believed in her he had this same doctor for 17 years. She said she wanted to shock his system, and that she did. He ended up taking 8 treatments for 8 weeks through the vain. After he did a couple treatments he ended up with 0 platelets. By the 8th treatment his platelets finally went up in the meantime he couldn't work cause he could bleed to death or get a blood clot.
A little later he ended up in the hospital with a bloodclot in his leg. He also ended up with Staff infection due to not having an immune system anymore he was being treated for all of this when he developed Pneumocystis Pneumonia which is a fungus pneumonia. He just could not get cleared up he ended up in ICU where he was placed on an ventulater for 10 days, and slept the whole time.
When he was finally awake he had the vent in so he could not talk he could not write move his legs on his own or his arms. He did get a trake in about a week later where he could communicate better. Finally he was moved out of ICU and put in another room where physical therapy would begin. He was so week and had lost about 45 pounds he could not get up on his own so he couldn't feed his self or use the bathroom.
We did it all for him my dad who could do everything down to not being able to do nothing in a short 4 months. On January 10th my dad died after he was so happy he was moved yet to another floor to begin some more real therapy. The next day the therapist came in and told him it was time to begin. He died right there. My sister mother and I all had Birhdays on the 8th, 16th and 19th of January which where not that happy. I believe all this would not have happened if it wasn't for the pills. |
