the other day I happened to saw a TV program that cheered up for Zhu Qinan, the silver medal winner for the Men’s Shooting 10m Air Rifle. As is known to all, zhu had the potential to hit the top before the competition rendered him the silver medal. And as far as he was concerned, he had been anticipating greatly plucking the golden medal to further honor our nation. However, when the result came out and learning that he just ranked the second, an expression of dismay flowed to his face. At the awarding ceremony, so depressed did he feel that he could not help tearing grievously, which touched the deepest of most attendants’ heart. When I saw the moving scene, I also felt specially affected and considerably adored his never-satisfied and forever-pursuing spirit.
Whereas, when i saw the TV program mentioned above spent the whole afternoon listing Zhu’s past glorious performances and moving mountain and earth to soothe him, my heart was totally taken by a sense of ruth. Undoubtedly, no one can deny zhu’s sky-high requirement towards himself and his forever-climbing spirit and considerable patriotism do deserve our respecting and learning. Nevertheless, greatly pity and agony as he felt, he was still one of the three winners in the competition which to a large pitch indicated that he had achieved his own goal and demonstrated his capability and long-term efforts. Compared with numerable losers in the Olympic games, he was a lucky one to keep his laurel and luster our nation. Needless to say, he did not exert his own ability to the fullest in the competition and committed some small mistakes, but he did get a high score and win a medal. Compared with those who had the real ability but made some fatal mistakes that disjoined them from their deserved medals and reputation, Zhu was literally a fortunate one that finally realized his dream to some extent. Hence I think the ones that really need to be cheered up are those losers who had been struggling and striving to their last strength but still failed to win the medals. They had tried their best and performed to their extreme, but fate did not sprinkle the least favor to them. Their patriotism is not less than those winners’. They are also well worth our sympathy and respect. It is beyond our wildest dreams how misery and depressed those losers felt when they learnt the dissatisfied outcome.
Therefore, when those losers saw the lasting-for-a-whole-afternoon program spare no efforts to encourage a silver-medal winner not to feel upset, how did they feel? Would they feel even more miserable when thinking of their situations? To my mind, it is them who should be cheered up and encouraged, not the winners!
After watching the program, my mind was in a mess and felt terribly complicated. I am desperately desiring to utter a loud voice calling for all the people in our country to pay more attention to our defeated athletes instead of focusing on the sparkling winners. The glowing aureoles hanging upon the winners’ heads are expanding all the time, so are the affliction of the losers. At this crucial moment, while we are going out of the way to celebrate the winners and our medals, do not forget to display our care and commiseration to our losers, which can help them pull themselves together and set them on the right and normal track in life as soon as possible. This deed can also demonstrate the spirits of Olympics and reveal our nation’s humanitarianism.
