As the excitement from Christmas dies away, our hearts get to rejoice more and more over the drawing near of the Chinese traditional Spring Festival. Spring Festival may mean candies and new clothes to the little kids; it might mean a big fat rest to the men and women who've been busy working; it has to mean that they'll get one year older to the senior citizens; whereas to me, it's a great experience to get together with my families, not because I miss home and need them but because they've missed me and need me to be there for them.
When I was little, I used to take for granted the loving and caring of my parents and grandparents. I used to complain about the shoes my mom bought me just because I didn't like the style. I once had my dad be called to school because I was playing with the little mirror my dad gave me as a present. I also quarreled with my mom and did exactly what she told me not to do. I used to hate my mom and swore never to be her daughter again when I get old enough to leave her. I used to...
However, time has changed everything, even without us wanting the changes. I've grown up, old enough to have my own family. My parents have become older and slower in doing everything. The amazing thing is that I came to love them more than ever and understand them more than ever before. I learned to listen patiently when my mom talked about how everything went when I wasn't at home. I also learned that it's my turn to love and take care of them. Even though my mom talks about the same thing for many times, I learned to be still listening carefully as if it’s the first time she ever says that. Love is patient and that’s how I show my love to my parents.
The Spring Festival means different things to different people. While to me, it’ll always be a season to share my love with my most beloved ones- now my parents and maybe my kids in the future. |
