老子《道德经》第三十六章英译
【原文】
    将欲歙（xī）之，必固张之。将欲弱之，必固强之。将欲废之，必固兴之。将欲夺之，必固与之。是谓微明。
    柔弱胜刚强。鱼不可脱于渊，国之利器不可示于人。
【现代汉语】
    将要收敛的，必先扩张；将要被削弱的，必先令之强盛；将要被废弃的，必先被兴举；将要被夺取的，必先施予。这些征兆虽然隐晦，但道理却非常明了。
    柔弱胜过刚强。鱼离开深渊就无法生存。权势和苛令不能拿出来威吓百姓。
  
【英译】
Dilation is the sign of constringency; mightiness is the sign of enervation; flourish is the sign of disuse; dispensation is the sign of seizure. All above premonition is indistinct, but the truth and rule is very perspicuous.
The soft overcomes the hard; and the weak the strong.
Fish should be left in the deep water. The sharp weapons of the state should be left where none can see them (The lordliness and tyranny should not be used to bulldoze the common people).
【备注】
       这一章向来被用来作为老子宣扬权谋、阴谋的“铁证”，但是，我相信任何一个从头到尾仔细学习过道德经的人都不会认可这种理论的。
       老子在这一章简洁地呈现给我们事务的基本规律而已。
