忙碌的一周又过去了，迎来了忙碌的周末。昨晚依旧去培训班教BEC，下班以后和学生李文娟和栗春燕一起走回校，她们说很喜欢我的课，还说在课上学到很多东西。听到这些话，我感到既高兴又惭愧。高兴是因为自己的成果受到了认可，惭愧是因为我还有很多要改进的地方，包括课堂内容的设计以及自己的水平的提高。
自从二年前当培训班的老师以来，不管是教公共英语还是商务英语，我才发现当一个老师真的不容易。准确地说，应该是当一个合格甚至优秀的老师不容易。作为一名英语教师，既可以轻松，也可以辛苦，这得看你把工作做到什么程度。要是想轻松，就直接照本宣科，按着课本讲，叫学生读课文啊，教学生读单词啊，再叫他们做一下练习，二个小时的功夫一下就过去了，无比的轻松。可是要当一个好老师，要让课堂充满活力，要让学生在课上学到更多的东西，可不是一件简单的事情。而我也正在朝这个方向不断地努力着，因为我不希望学生的学费白交。当然老师本身的水平也很重要，要是本身水平不够，甚至连学生也不如，再会教也教不出个东西来。所以我还得不断地提高自己英语方面的能力和素养。教的课程要求的水平越来越高，压力也会越来越大，不过只要认真地做好了自己的工作，问心无愧就好了。
昨晚钰涛十点多来找我聊天，还给我还来了一捧湖南的特产，一小包一小包的，都是鸭肉，什么味道的都有，不过不管什么味道都是辣的。本来我不敢吃的，因为我吃不得辣，可是看到每个小包都小巧玲珑的，包装精美，好像很诱人，于是忍不住吃了一包，味道真的一流，很有地方特色风味，可是却辣得不得了，喝了一大杯水还解不了，想喷火一样，呵呵。

Yesterday when watched the 2007 CCTV Cup National Speaking Competition, I came across a very interesting topic: Human is the master of nature or the servant of nature? I was shocked speechless at the first sight on the topic. It triggered a wealth of thought and emotion deep down my heart. I sank into thinking gradually.
For thousands of years, many of us have believed that we are the master of nature and feel tremendously proud of it. Why? It is because we are the only creature on earth that has super intelligence which can assist us to change the world. Moreover, we can also do a multitude of things that can never be accomplished by other living creatures on earth, such as developing our technologies and economy, etc. Therefore, we look on ourselves as the center of the universe and the conqueror of everything in this world. When we climb to the top of the sky-high mountain, we may arrogantly claim that we have conquered her. When we navigate across the widest ocean, we may ignorantly allege that we have conquered her. But indeed, have we ever conquered anything thoroughly on our planet? I suppose not.
Maybe we can cure numerous diseases with our advancing medicines, but we can never get rid of them. Many people still suffer cold or other common diseases every day. As with some severe and fatal disease as to cancer, leukemia, asthma and so on, we still have not worked out effective therapies and vaccines to cure and prevent them. So dare we assert that we have defeated diseases? So many times when we think that we have conquered our mother nature, we are literally ignorant even stupid. The tsunami in Indian Ocean in 2004 claimed millions of lives. The Wenchuan Earthquake in Sichuan province caused severe casualty. Countless natural disasters strike our continents every year, depriving innumerable innocent people of their precious lives. It is hard for us to have a full understanding of these monstrous catastrophes, not to mention conquering them. In the face of nature, we are just like a childish kid having known extremely little but having far more to know. Hence, I can barely figure out why we dare say we are the master of nature. Don’t you think it totally ridiculous?
However, it is exactly this seemingly convincing thought that misleads us to a hazardous situation. Since we hold proudly that we are the master of nature, we can command and order our servant nature to do everything for us and take everything we need from her without any hesitation. In order to develop our economy and elevate our material living standard, we exploit every little bit of natural resources by all means. We cut forest by hectare and hectare and poach various wild animals to satisfy our appetite or our need for their skin or fur. Dissertation is enlarging nonstop all over the world and numerous animals are at the edge of extinction, struggling with the last breath on the disappearing natural habitat. Worse still, we have polluted and contaminated our environment, causing an increasing number of deadly diseases and global problems such as global warming, the absence of ozone layer in some areas in South Pole. We, the so-called mater, are being pressed to the edge of cliff by our servant nature. Isn’t it absurd? The earth still hides too many mysteries that are waiting us to further explore and probe. And nature is a far larger definition than “earth”. It refers to the whole universe, of which our earth is just a tiny fragment, just like a small drip in the vast ocean. If we claim to be the master of nature, we are actually saying that we are the master of the universe. I really cannot come up with any rationality about this statement.
As far as I see, in face of nature, we are not maser, nor are we servant. We are indeed friends, intimate friends. We should treat our nature with our greatest hospitality and sincerity and coexist with her harmoniously. We are sparing no effort to develop our civilization and modernization, and meantime, we should also do our utmost to preserve our nature to maintain our sustainable development. Only by doing so can we lead a better life in the future. |
