卧床微病，是夜无眠。念卿曾嘱，为文一篇，知汝大学之感。
I am lying on bed with ailment and can hardly fall into sleep tonight. All of a sudden I recalled your plead before, therefore, I am writing an article to tell you my feelings towards college.
大学之大，广于学识，阔于处世。分秒必争，定学有所成；荒唐度日，必徒添伤悲。广博群书，必理法于心；广游万里，必万丈豪情。腹中盈笔墨，气质自显拓；满嘴污秽语，人皆不屑与。遥想孟德色衰，犹老骥伏枥，志在千里；遥思王勃志远，穷且益坚，不坠青云之志。汝当引而思之，鉴而学之！
College is vast both in knowledge and behavior education. Those who can catch every second to study are destined to accomplish their achievements, while those idling time away are doomed to suffer unveiling regret in the future. The extensively you read, the more knowledge and common wisdom you will store. The more you travel, the broader vision you will have. Those who are knowledgeable will show great temperament automatically. Those who are spitting out filthy words will only get despising. Mengde was still ambitious when he was old. Wang Bo did not abandon his aspiration though he was poor. You should contemplate on their experiences and learn from them.
学须有所成，处世亦须通达。路遥马力显，日久人心现。心善者，与之交，心恶者，与之绝；志同道合者，与之交深；话不投机者，与之浅酌；爱我者，我亦爱之；害我者，我必反击；广交天下有识之士，广避天下谄媚小人。如此方能集世间之大成，立一方之天下！
No one will doubt the significance of knowledge, but the code of behaving should not be ignored either. Time can test anyone’s personality and quality in the long run. You should deal with kindly people and get rid of the malicious. You can go deeper with those sharing mutual interest with you, while keeping a shallow relationship with those who don’t. Those who love you also deserve your love, while those who trap you deserve your response! Only by dealing with ambitious people and averting bad ones can you pioneer your own way!
良朋难寻，知音难觅。若得之，则须倍加珍惜；反失之，则后悔晚矣。弃我去者，昨日之日不可留；乱我心者，今日之日多烦忧。人非圣贤，孰能无过？过而能改，善莫大焉。然世间法则，非全过可犯，某过之犯，将恨错难返。一子错，满盘皆输；一步错，则英名尽丧。为人处事，步步为营，方为上策！
It is more than hard to find a bosom friend! Therefore, once you find one, you should cherish him to the best. Otherwise, once you lose him, it will be too late to regret! Those who left you behind yesterday are not worth your retaining. Those who are disturbing your mind today are adding even more troubles to your life. To make mistake is human. As long as you correct it, you are still a good man! However, not all the mistakes can be committed and then corrected. Some mistakes can never be done! Or you will never have chance to come back! One misstep can ruin your life thoroughly! Look before you leap! It is the best strategy in life!
书山有路，勤为之径；学海无涯，苦为之舟。然终日攀书山，渡学海，心力交瘁竟有时，何不止步山中，赏花开花落，观云卷云舒？何不停桨随波，望碧波荡漾，眺红日东升？沿途风景，尽可一洗倦容。再踏征程，倍感旺盛！
Industry is the only path to the mountain of books and hard working is the only boat to sail the sea of knowledge. But if you keep working all the time, you will feel weary some day. At this moment, why not stop your tight pace for a moment and enjoy the beauty of nature? The blooming and fading of the flowers, the coming and going of the clouds, and the rising and setting of the sun may erase your weariness and make you more refreshing in the way of proceeding!
世间得失，尽属本然。得之则倍加珍惜；失之则无须介怀。天定去者，汝不可留；天意留者，汝不可弃。穷则独善其身，达则兼济天下。遇喜不骄，处之谦卑，遇忧不惊，处之泰然。乐极生悲，否极泰来，望君切记！
It is quite natural to gain and lose something. Try your best to treasure what you have and do not bother too much about what your have lost. Your efforts to retain something that is doomed to be lost will only turn out to be in vain. When you are impoverished, try to treat yourself well. When you are rich, try to help others! Meeting with happy affairs, do not be too arrogant but be modest. Encountering misfortune, try to stay calm and deal with it with composure. Do remember everything will have an end, including happiness and unhappiness!
自强不息，恐防天命难为。谋事在人，成事在天；求上之心固不可弃，安命之心亦不可违。凡事尽汝之全力，是非得失，切勿耿耿于怀。活出精彩，方为人生。千秋功过，自有后人评说！
Striving with your greatest strength does not guarantee your ultimate success. Man proposes, God disposes. It is well advised to climb unceasingly, but when everything is set, we should also learn to obey. As long as you try your best to do it, do not focus on the result too much! Live what your want to live, then that is the real life! In terms of your merits or mistakes, the latter generations will make comments on it! |
