昨天深圳市BEC高级的成绩公布, 有人欢喜,但更多的是 “有人愁”. 在新东方同样教BEC的老师把一些通过的考生的名单和等级发给我, 一个熟悉的名字赫赫榜首: 莫洁文, 深圳大学大三英语系的学生. 她也是我今年教的BEC班的学生. 当时那位老师和我说她可能考了第一名, 但不是非常确定. 直到下午看到英语群里有人转发沪江BEC网的新闻时, 这个消息才得证实. 是的, 她考了第一名, 我们班的学生考了第一名.
Yesterday the result of the BEC Higher in Shenzhen City was released, leaving some happy and some sad. A teacher who is also teaching BEC in New Oriental School sent some names of candidates who had passed the exam to me. Once I looked at the list, a very familiar name drew my eyes: Mo Jiewen, an English major junior student in Shenzhen University. She is also my student in BEC class this year. The teacher told me that she might rank No.1 among all the candidates. This news had not been confirmed until in the afternoon I saw the news in our QQ communities. It is for sure that she has got the first place in this grand exam.
下午在我的BEC班群里, 大家都在讨论着考试结果的事, 很想知道中级什么时候可以查. 我看着大家说话, 自己没有了声. 当有同学说到莫洁文同学考了第一名时, 其他的同学很惊讶. 但有一个同学的一句话让我印象非常深刻: 意料之外, 却又在情理之中.
In the afternoon many of my students were heatedly discussing the BEC Higher in the forum and eagerly wondering when the result of Vantage would come out. I looked at their statements and kept silent. Talking about that Mo Jiewen got the first place in the exam, many students felt shocked. But one student’s remark impressed me most: it is out of expectation, but it is within understanding.
是的, 意料之外, 却又在情理之中. 从2009年3月我在外面教BEC 到今年的5月中旬, 我已经教过4次的BEC, 而从09年开始到现在, 连续三届的深圳市BEC中级或者高级的状元都在我们班里. 去年的两届是中级状元, 这次是高级状元. 为此我感到非常自豪! 我感到自豪一方面是因为我的教学方法以及提供给学生的建议是切实可行的, 是可以真正帮助他们实现飞跃的;另一方面是因为看到学生通过自己的不懈努力而取得成功时, 作为老师的我感到无比的高兴. 我想这就是一个老师的心情.
Yes, it is out of expectation, but it is within understanding. Since March, 2009 until now, I have taught BEC four times. And surprisingly, the first place winners for three exams successively are all my students, two Vantage winners last year and one Higher winner this year. I feel very proud of it. I feel proud because of two reasons. On the one hand, I know my teaching methods and advice provided are feasible for my students and can help them achieve better performance. On the other hand, when I see my students realize their success through unyielding efforts, as their teacher, I also feel more than delighted. Maybe it is just what a teacher thinks and feels!
其实BEC状元就和高考状元一样, 是不可遇不可求的. 我想没有任何考生在考BEC高级前可以百分百肯定地说他可以考得第一名. 第一名是运气和实力的结合. 所以我说莫洁文的成功是 “意料之外”. 而说她的成功是 “情理之中”, 是因为我们BEC班的每一个同学都可以见证她的实力和努力. 我依然记得每次单词听写她都几乎得了全班最高分, 每次作业都认真完成. 在平时的口语活动或者辩论中, 她慷慨陈词. 可以这样说, 你在她身上看不出太多的热情, 但是却有一种莫名的沉稳与踏实. 每个人都有不同的性格特点, 所以我不敢说她的这种特点是最好的, 但是她的那一份沉稳肯定让她在考场中出色地发挥. 准备考试前, 她发了一篇作文给我看. 看完她的作文后, 我感到无比的安慰. 我对她说, 对于她的作文, 我已经没有什么好改的了, 因为她已经基本掌握了作文的写作方法, 文章的结构, 内容编排以及词汇语法都已达到相当的水平, 完全符合高级的要求, 如果再改的话恐怕就是朝满分作文努力了. 现在回想起来, 我再一次深刻地体会到, 状元原来是这样炼成的.
Actually, the first place winner of BEC is the same with that of the college entrance exam, which can only be wished, not for sure to be owned. None of the candidates can say for sure that he can get No.1 before he takes the BEC Higher. The No. is a combination of luck and ability. Therefore, I think Mo’s success is out of expectation. But the reason why I say it is also within understanding is that everyone else in my class has witnessed her ability and efforts. I still clearly remember that for each dictation test, she also got the No.1. Moreover, she accomplished every assignment very carefully. In our daily oral practice or debates, she was willing to undertake challenge. Maybe you cannot see too much passion in her, but you can feel a strong sense of composure from her. Everyone has his own characteristic, so I dare not say that hers is the best. But what I am sure for is that her composure rendered her perform exceptionally in the test. I still remember before the exam, she sent me a composition. After reading it, I felt very pleased. I said to her that for her composition, I could hardly make any correction or revision, because she has got the hang of it in terms of writing skills, structures, vocabulary and grammar. Now I have a deeper understanding of what makes a No.1 winner.
另外本次考试的第二名也花落深大, 是深圳大学大二会计系的华康同学. 虽然他不是我们班的学生, 但是他却是英语角的忠实成员, 更是我的好朋友. 他这次考试以两分之差位居第二. 认识华康两年了, 一路走来, 我感慨万千. 是英语把我这个师兄和他这个师弟成为好朋友. 对英语的共同爱好让我们有无尽的话题. 一个大二的学生可以通过BEC高级而且取得如此骄人的成绩, 这在深圳大学是非常少见的. 如果说有一个最了解华康的英语学习过程, 我想这个世上就只有我一个了. 两年来我看到了他的不懈努力, 看到他一点一滴的进步, 看到他在无形中把本来比他优秀的大三大四的师兄师姐一点点的压下去. 虽然我不是一个老人, 但是我不得不说一句: 后生可畏! 直到现在, 当我再想起他的名字时, 感到既熟悉又陌生. 他还是原来的他, 然而他的水平已非昨日可比. 真心希望他可以再接再厉, 在后面取得更大的辉煌!
Besides, the second winner was Hua Kang, a second-year accounting major in Shenzhen University. Though he is not my student, he is a total loyal fan of the English corner as well as my good friend. I have known him for two years. Looking back all the way we have walked until now, I felt extremely affected. It is English that brings us together tightly and gives us numerous mutual topics. It is very rare for a sophomore to pass the BEC Higher and get such a good performance. If there is someone who knows well Hua Kang’s learning process, it must be me. For these two years, I witnessed his relentless efforts and constant progress and how he outran his senior schoolmates who were originally better than him. Though I am far from an old man, I have to say that the younger generation is always awesome. Now when I think of his name, I will feel he is familiar as well as unfamiliar. He is still the one he used to be physically, but his English level is out of our imagination. I really hope that he can keep on striving and achieve a greater performance in the future.
另一个人我不得不提一下的是郭晓曼同学, 大二国贸系的女生. 我们也是非常好的朋友. 和华康一样, 她也是英语角的忠实成员, 这次也考过BEC高级. 之前大家都担心她过不了, 因为她准备的时间很短, 中途发生了许多不好的事情也严重地影响了她. 然而我想, 长期以来对英语的执着与努力, 她的功底已经沉淀下来, 所以经过艰苦的冲刺准备, 她还是以不错的成绩通过了考试. 她的学习历程和华康一样, 让我无比的震惊与感动. 记得在报纸上看过一句话: 如果说有一样东西可以把全世界的人都联系在一起, 这样东西就是足球. 现在我要说的是: 如果有一样东西可以把我和别的志同道合的同学紧紧联系在一起, 这样东西就是英语.
Another person I must mention is Guo Xiaoman, a sophomore majoring in international trade. We are also good friends. As Hua Kang, she is also a loyal fan of the English corner and passed BEC Higher this time. Before the result came out, we were all worried that she could not pass, for she did not prepare long and during her preparation, a lot of bad events occurred, which had a negative impact on her. However, now I believe that her long-term endeavor of learning English has granted her a solid foundation that helped her out in the test through short-term stiff preparation. Her learning story is as moving and striking as Hua Kang’s. I remember a sentence I read in the newspaper: If there is one thing that can associate all people around the globe , that is football. But now I would like to say that if there is one thing that can tight me and other people of mutual interests and goals closely, that is English.
突然又想起一句大家耳熟能详的话: 当一个人朝自己的目标不断努力时, 整个世界都会为他让路. 我一直对英语角的同学说, 你们对英语的付出, 她总有一天会回报你们的. 写到这里, 突然间我感受到了很大的激励与鼓舞. 难怪有人说, 你有什么样的朋友决定了你有什么样的人生. 我要向优秀的朋友学习.
All of a sudden, another well-known sentence comes to my mind now: When someone is striving with all his might towards his goal, all the world would give way to him. Therefore, I often told the participants of the English corner that one day, their efforts towards English would pay off. Writing here, I feel that I myself am also greatly motivated and inspired. No wonder it is said that what kind of friends you have determines what kind of life you are going to live. I should really learn from my excellent friends! |
