把一切看得简单些

家里有一块厚厚的木板，宽约30厘米、长约4米。父亲把它平放在院子里，对着将要到外面做事的儿子笑着说：“走过去。” 这还不容易？儿子踩上去，从这头跑到那头，从那头又跑到这头，跟走平地没有什么区别。
There was a thick plank of 30 centimeters wide and 400 centimeters long at home. Father put it on two big stones at yard and said to his son who was going to work soon, “Please go across the plank.” His son went to and fro across the plank again and again effortlessly. It seemed like walking on the ground.
在父亲面前，为了显示自己的能耐，儿子还闭着眼睛走了一回，单腿跳跃着走了一回，甚至翻着跟头走了一回。而且每一回，儿子都走得非常干净利索，连中途掉下来的可能性都不存在。
In order to show his capability in front of his father, the son closed his eyes walking across the plank once, hopping on it once and even tumbling on it once. Every time he seemed to walk very quickly and smoothly without the least possibility that he would fall down.
父亲笑了笑，带儿子来到后山上，把木板架在一条深深的沟坎上，说：“走过去。” 儿子看了看黑乎乎的沟底，立即傻了眼。 父亲笑道：“不是一样吗？它没变长，也没变窄啊。” 儿子盯着那木板，额头渗出了细汗。
His father smiled and then led his son to the mountain behind their house and put the plank oveer a very deep ditch and said, “Go across the plank.” Looking at the black bottom of the ditch, his son felt dizzy. His father smiled, “Isn’t it the same plank? It has not become longer or narrower.” But his son was still staring at the plank with sweat oozing from his forehead.
父亲往沟的那边一指，说：“黑莓果都熟透了。你要是不能过去，那就要绕沟底了，但却最少要半天的功夫，才能吃到黑莓果呢！”儿子从小就喜欢吃黑莓果，到现在更甚一些，这一点，父亲很清楚。
黑莓果三字，使儿子流出了口水。可他还是不敢过，一只脚刚触到木板，就慌忙缩了回来。
His father pointed to the other side of the ditch and said, “The blackberries there are all ripe. If you dare not go there across the plank, you will have to go to the bottom of the ditch first and then went up to the other side to access the blackberries, which will take you at least half a day!” The son loved eating blackberries since he was a child and even more now. His father knew it clearly. The blackberries made the son water, but he still dare not go. When he put one of his feet on the board, he shrank immediately.
父亲叹了一口气，说：“为什么呢？” 儿子低下头说：“是这样……除了木板和沟的两边，我现在还看见了沟底。真的很深啊！”父亲问道：“那又怎么了？” 儿子说：“不光这样。我还想象到，从木板上掉到沟底，是非常惨的，那与掉到平地上，一点也不一样。” 父亲说：“可是在家里，你已经走得很熟练了，根本没有可能掉下来。” 儿子默然不语。
His father sighed, “Why not?” His son dropped down his head and said, “Beside the plank and the banks of the ditch, I can also see its bottom. It is really deep!” His father asked, “Yeah, so what?” His son replied, “I can imagine it will be miserable if I fall into the ditch. It is totally different from falling on the ground.” His father said, “But you have practiced quite skillfully at home and it is impossible that you will fall down.” His son kept silent.
父亲微笑着，用鼓励的眼神看着儿子：“儿子，你把这条路想得太复杂了，你被自己吓坏了。来，试一试，把它看得简单一些。这里，只有木板和沟的两边，别的什么也没有。来，试一试吧！” 听了这话，儿子咬了咬牙，终于鼓起了勇气。他按照父亲说的，迈动脚步，果然两三下就走了过去。
The father smiled and looked at his son encouragingly, “Dear son, you have thought it to be very complex and stunned yourself. Come and have a try! Try to see it simpler. Here there are only a plank and the banks of the ditch. Nothing else! Come and have a try!” Hearing this, the son clinched his teeth and summoned up his courage. He follow his father’s advice and went across the plank easily.
儿子很高兴，认为这是他人生的头一个大成功。他告别了父亲，离开了家乡，去到大都市纽约，开始了新的生活。 若干年后，儿子成就了一番事业，把辉煌的歌声传遍了整个世界。文中这个儿子，就是美国著名的音乐家凯里！
His son felt extremely happy and thought it as the first success of his life. He waved goodbye to his dad and left his home for New York to begin a new life. Several years later, he established his own career and conveyed his beautiful songs around the world. He is exactly Carey, a famous American musician!
凯里在总结自己成功经验的时候写道：“成功，其实真的很简单。把它想得过于复杂，就会丧失自信，变得胆怯。让成功的路简洁一些，每一个人都会成功！”
When summarizing his successful experience, Carey said, “ Success, is actually very simple. Do not interpret it in a complex way, otherwise you will lose confidence and become timid. Try to simplify your path to success and everyone has the chance to succeed!” |
