British scientists have solved the ancient riddle of which came first - chicken or egg? The answer, they say, is the chicken. Researchers found that the formation of egg shells relies on a protein found only in a chicken’s ovaries, according to The Sun of London. That means eggs have to be formed in chickens. The protein, called ovocledidin-17 (OC-17), speeds up the development of the shell.
据英国《太阳报》报道，困扰人类的千古之谜"鸡生蛋还是蛋生鸡"终于有了答案。英国科学家称：先有鸡后有蛋。研究人员发现，蛋壳只有在一种蛋白质的催化下才能形成，而这种物质只存在于鸡的卵巢内。因此，一定是鸡生蛋。这种名叫OC-17的蛋白质能够加速蛋壳的形成。
