I should be responsible for your future employers! I should make sure everyone of you is qualified for your professional job in the future!"

Pepsi is one of the largest drink refreshment firms in the world and it has a long list of ambassadors from footballers to musicians who help promote the brand. This article “Fizz and Film” focuses on Pepsi’s marketing activities in the Middle East and more notably their decision to sponsor a movie aimed only at the Middle Eastern segment.
Pepsi already has a strong presence in the Middle East but decided to fund a movie so as to give the company a new creative edge which will allow them to promote their brand to the consumer market using this new, exciting and creative technique. The film which is called “Bahr Al Nujoom” or “The Sea of Stars” aims to bring local and international superstars together. Pepsi gathered the best talents in the Middle East and combined them with their list of international superstars as the cast for the movie so as to help maintain a direct connection with their consumer base, allowing the consumers the opportunity to relate to some of the movies stars. The marketing manager for PepsiCo in the Middle Eastern region believes the film will allow the company the opportunity to promote the Pepsi brand while rewarding customers for their loyalty to the brand. The Vice President believes it is an opportunity to introduce new Pepsi products to the audience. Pepsi aims to broaden and extend their existing marketing strategies and link the celebrities in the movie to the tastes, characteristics and lifestyles of their target consumers. But to do this Pepsi have highlighted the importance of selecting the right celebrity, one who is inspirational, either at the beginning or in their career or at their peak of their career. Some of the artists chosen were well known while others were only new to the music industry.
Pepsi has also taken other steps to promote their products and tried to increase their market share in the Middle Eastern region. In 2007 they launched their new sports drink Gatorade and sponsored the Blom Beirut Marathon, which proved an enormous success as they helped ensure the success of the event while linking their new drink with their target consumers. Also in December of the same year Pepsi signed an agreement with the World Links Arab Region, a non-governmental organisation which aims to improve literacy and technology knowledge in the region. With diversified promotional strategies and great vision, Pepsi is doomed to embrace a promising future in years to come!
