Many countries spend a lot of money preparing competitors to take part in major sports competitions such as the Olympics, the foot ball world cup etc. It would be better to spend this money encouraging children to take up sports from a young age.
The competitions in sports among nations have been increasingly stiff nowadays, which could be witnessed by the recently-finished Olympic Games held in London, leading many countries to spend a growing amount of money in preparing their competitors for various sports events in pursuit of the championship. But some people doubt its rationality, claiming that it would be better to spend the money inspiring children to take up sports from a young age.
Needless to say, investing in the training of our competitors is of great significance in that only by receiving sufficient effective training can our representatives fully bring out their potentials in the arena and win the medals. Relying solely on the child athletes to win glories for the nation is not that workable for the reason that most children are too young and inexperienced to fulfill the colossal achievement their nation is craving for. Even though some genius child athletes have demonstrated amazing capability before, the proportion and chance is very slim, while most of winners in various games like the renowned Olympic Games, World Cup, etc, are adult athletes. Therefore, the investment in adult competitors is indispensable and should be continuously intensified.
Nevertheless, investing in our competitors does not mean that we should give up the training of the child athletes from an early age. Instead, we should also increase our investment in it as the young child athletes are our future expectations. With effective and efficient training, these children would progress rapidly and compete for medals in the arena sooner or later. Most of the champions in the world have been intensively trained from an early age, which could convincingly justify the necessity of investing in the existing or the prospective child athletes.
Hence, it is not a problem on whether we should focus on one side and abandon the other, but a problem on how to strike a balance between them. Only by investing enough funds in both the adult athletes and child athletes can we perpetually show up gloriously in a variety of competitions around the world. |
