Positive change
I think the most positive change that I had in my life was what happened in my first job after leaving school.
After going to school for more than 16years, all of my life has been so used to school, my daily schedule, my social life and so on. The world outside the school seems so strange to me. My feelings are mixed with ambition, hope, expectation as well as insecurity and worries. In my mind, it is such a difficult time, especially at the beginning. I did not know how to communicate with my colleagues.
Last year, I was complained about by one of my colleagues as she thought my attitude was bad. You know, my boss talked with me for about 3 hours and let me apologize to the colleague. I felt so angry and planned to give up my first job, but a colleague in my department told me how to deal with this issue and gave me some advices. After the talk, I got a clear perspective of myself and a whole new way of looking at my work.
Anyway, most people have to face this change once they leave school. But I learn that life is full of changes and uncertainties, we just do all that we can and hope for the best.
The most unforgettable class activity
The most unforgettable class activity that I have taken part in as part of my English study is a fierce debate in my college.
All students in my class were divided into 2 groups and each group selected 4 players. Fortunately, I was chosen as one of them. After the topic was given by teacher, we started to have a group discussion with my companies. We discussed the main task for every player, our ideas, some researches and examples during about 20 minutes.
Then, I spoke the view of our team as a representative and the 5 minutes’ speech won plenty of applauses. We debated with our competitors in the rest time of the activity. The atmosphere was really fierce. Finally, we beat our competitors by 1 score and it was really lucky.
The activity is great. It not only gives us opportunities to show ourselves but also offer opportunities to improve our language ability. Of course, it also encourages us to study harder.
The best advice in my study
The best piece of advice in my study I have got came from my mother. It happened in the beginning in my high school. At that time, I was just leaving my middle school and going to the high school which is the best one in my city.
Of course, both the teachers and students there were great and excellent, In the first term, I was left far behind by my classmates and felt so tired and nervous., sometimes I even did not want to go to school. I could not accept this situation as I used to be the example for my peers before.
My parents worried about me very much, so my mother talked with me and gave me some advice. She told me that I must strike a balance among all the subjects as the subjects were more than before, and I needed to learn how to manage my limited energy and time. Then, I should adjust my attitude to my study, just do things under the plan of my teachers and do not compare with my classmates. I did this with the advice, to my surprise, I got high scores in the middle term exam and I picked up confidence again.
I felt very thankful to the advice from my mother. We should arrange our time and keep a positive attitude on our life
An unsatisfactory purchase
I am not a shopaholic type of person. So I don not shop often. But if I do buy something I hate to go back to the store to return.
Last summer, I bought a pair of high heels for a party in a big shopping mall. It was a famous brand and therefore quite expensive. However, to my disappointment, it did not take long before I discovered the heel of one shoe was about to come off. Immediately I took them to the store and demanded a change. Unfortunately, the attitude of the store was very bad and did not agree to change a new pair of shoes for me. I felt so angry.
Since then, I learned a lesson that famous brand is not always a guarantee for quality. There may also be some defects in their products. So I must check carefully before I buy them.
A polite occasion (A meal)
Last month one of my colleagues invited me to have dinner at her home to celebrate her birthday. Of course, she also invited many other colleagues and friends.
On that day, I dressed myself beautiful with new clothes and I also bought some gifts and fruits because bringing gifts when you are invited to someone’ home is a polite culture in China. Her families welcomed me when I stepped into her home and they even gave me a gadget as a gift, which let me feel so happy. Her mother did cooking in the chicken and I went to help her, and she told me how to cook as well.
Then at the table during the dinner time, we proposed a toast to my colleague and said some words of blessing. There were a lot of good manners we need to pay attention to, for example, we cannot make a sound when we eat and drink, we need to use public chopsticks and need to politely answer the problem of the elder. What is more, we must eat all the food given by others even if we do not like the food.
This meal really impressed me. |
