I’ve been agonizing over which phone to upgrade to for several months now.

My HTC Incredible has been undergoing a long, slow, miserable decline. Phonecalls have become so crackly as to be near-indecipherable; the screen has been flickering; photos have dilapidated into a weird, lo-fi technicolor.

The 4s isn’t much different from the iPhone 4 in terms of size and bulk, and both phones feel just about perfect size-wise. Not too thick, not too thin, and just about the right weight. Had the iPhone 5 maintained the nice metal border and exact thickness of the iPhone 4S, at least your humble narrator would have been more inclined to make the purchase.

This is the first iPhone I’ve owned, and the second smartphone which, I suppose, means I’m just a baby when it comes to actually owning these things. Compared to Android, the differences are quite striking.

(While I remain a skeptic about mobile gaming, there are some fun mobile games out there that deserve a closer look. And while I realize the iPhone 5 has improved graphics capabilities over the 4S, I suspect it won’t make that much difference over the next two years.)

Maybe in two years I’ll give Windows Phone a spin. Hopefully by then the availability of Windows Phone apps has increased, and more games are available on Windows devices.

Until then, Windows will remain in my PC, and iOS will remain in my phone.
