爱迪生创立的“门罗公园” ，作为世界上第一个大量生产发明物的工业研究实验室，仍在硅谷发光。29岁在门洛公园创立实验室时，爱迪生已经是成功的发明家和商人。他选择门洛公园，除了因为此处环境幽雅以外，更是考虑到这里距离纽约极近，为他与赞助商们交流沟通提供了巨大便利。爱迪生的实验室没有规章制度，没有时钟，但是工作人员们却总在长时间工作，享受着在一起的感觉。实验室的布局轻松随意，以便于爱迪生和助手们彼此交流。他和他的科学家团队共取得了1093项发明专利。单是1882年一年内，他们申请的专利就有141项。
