But not more than a half-dozen people in the country Knewthat President Theodore Roosevelt had lost his sight of his lefteye．He was struck in the eye during a vigorous boxing ex-ercise with a young army officer，in 1904，and his vision be-came dimmer and dimmer until there was no sight at all from 1908 on．T．R．was sensitive over the defect，and carefully avoidedgiving the impression that he was using only one eye．
