But not more than a half-dozen people in the country Knewthat President Theodore Roosevelt had lost his sight of his lefteye.He was struck in the eye during a vigorous boxing ex-ercise with a young army officer,in 1904,and his vision be-came dimmer and dimmer until there was no sight at all from 1908 on.T.R.was sensitive over the defect,and carefully avoidedgiving the impression that he was using only one eye.
