忙碌的周末

个周末注定又是一个异常忙碌的周末。首先是昨天早上一个早上在准备英语角的资料,平时太忙了总是没空,只能放到周六来弄。上午11点答应了以前老宿舍的同学一起去饭店聚餐,大家一直吃到一点多,重温当年的温馨,真的好开心。后来他们要去唱K,可是我答应了书城的一个老师要代他上几节商务英语写作的课,结果只能提早走了。去到书城遇到一帮新面孔,才上了一节课就有很多同学问我的QQ号。本来我不想给的,因为我经常信息不断弄得我好烦,而且没时间回。但是我又不好意思拒绝只得给他们了。
今天早上八点半再度光临香格里拉酒店做翻译兼职,又是一轮新的挑战。翻译的队员们水平都很高,着实让我紧张了好久。大家搭配得非常好,所以中午11点半光荣了完成了我们的任务。
回到宿舍累得受不了了,一睡睡到差不多四点,然后花了一个小时写下了雅思真题集的一份作文题,共两篇。真的希望自己的雅思可以考出好成绩,也不枉自己苦学了这么多年了,呵呵!

Writing task one:
题目:The table below gives information about the underground railway systems in six cities.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The table is revealing some basic information about the underground railway systems in six cities regarding date opened, distance of route and annual amount of passengers.
From the table, London outstands with its earliest date opened, 1863, followed tightly by Paris with the date 1900. The opened dates for Tokyo, Washington and Kyoto are 1927, 1976 and 1987 respectively. Los Angeles is the youngest among all with an opened date 2001.
In terms of the distance of route, it is quite surprising that London still ranks in the first place with 394 kilometers of route, almost twice the distance of Paris with 199 kilometers. Kyoto has the shortest route of 11 kilometers, less than one thirtieth of the route of London.
As with the annual amount of passengers, interestingly, Tokyo, with a number of 1927 millions largely exceeds London and Paris, whose numbers are 775 millions and 1191 millions respectively, ranking Number 1 among all. Kyoto still stays on the bottom of the ranking with only 45 millions passengers round the year, 5 millions less than Los Angeles.
Altogether, all the railway systems vary greatly in regards to their date opened, length of the route and annual amount of passengers. None of them can rank top in all these aspects.
Writing task two:
Topic: Research indicates that the characteristics we are born with have much more influence on our personality and development than any experiences we may have in our life. Which do you consider to be the major influence?
As with the issue that the born characteristics and experiences, which exerts more influence on our personality and development, I tend to believe the latter. Here is my elucidation.
Admittedly, our born characteristics do play a pivotal role in our later personality. Some babies are born naughty and playful may be inclined to play various sports or games after they grow up. Such kind of children may even be somewhat aggressive. By contrast, some are born quiet tend to have a mild temper and a strong concentration and carefulness in what they are doing. Hence, it is rather distinct that our inherited characteristics do count tremendously in the forming of our personality in the future.
Nevertheless, while the inherited characteristics are vitally critical, personal experiences should be placed more emphasis on. One’s born characteristics can thoroughly changed by experiences. For example, when someone lives an abundant life from baby to childhood, he may be somewhat luxurious and even arrogant and self-centered. However, suppose later, his family comes down in the world and becomes extremely impoverished, then he may get to know how precious a bow of rice is and feel deeply regretful at his lavish behaviors in the past. So he may become frugal and make full use of every coin even though he has become well-off in the future! Furthermore, he may deeply know the true meaning of “ a friend in need is a friend indeed” after all his wicked friends leave him without giving any help when he is needy. He may become more mentally mature and get rid of all his bad habits and how to show sympathy to the poor and piteous. All these justify the great validity of my belief!
In all, I do not deny the great significance of inherited characteristics on our personality and development, but they can be changed profoundly by personal experiences. Therefore, I hold that personal experiences impose more impact on our personality and development!
