君召使擯，色勃如也，足躩如也。揖所與立，左右手。衣前後，襜如也。趨進，翼如也。賓退，必復命曰：“賓不顧矣。”
When the prince called him to employ him in the reception of a visitor, his countenance appeared to change, and his legs to move forward with difficulty.
He inclined himself to the other officers among whom he stood, moving his left or right arm, as their position required, but keeping the skirts of his robe before and behind evenly adjusted.
He hastened forward, with his arms like the wings of a bird. When the guest had retired, he would report to the prince, "The visitor is not turning round any more."
【原文】
君召使摈①，色勃如也②，足躩如也③。揖所与立④，左右手，衣前后，襜如也⑤。趋进⑥，翼如也⑦。宾退，必复命曰：“宾不顾矣⑧。”
【今译】
鲁国国君下令叫孔子接待外宾，孔子脸色立刻庄重起来，脚步加快起来。孔子向同他站在一起的人作揖时，分别向左右拱手，衣服前后摆动，都很整齐。他快步向前时，姿态像鸟儿要展翅飞翔。宾客走了以后，一定向国君回报说：“宾客已经不回头看了。”
【注释】
①摈（ｂīｎ）：同“傧”。古代接待外宾的傧相。此作动词用，指国君下令，要孔子去接待外宾。
②勃如：脸色端庄、精神饱满的样子。
③足躩（ｊｕé）：走路很持重的样子。
④揖所与立：向站在身边的人作拱打揖，即相互打招呼。
⑤襜（ｃｈāｎ）如：衣服整齐飘动。
⑥趋进：迎上前去。
⑦翼如：风度翩翩，像鸟儿展翅的样子。
⑧宾不顾：宾客不回头，表示宾客走得很远了。
【评点】
本章记载了孔子为国君接待贵宾时的仪态。古今中外，一个国家迎接外宾，都根据级别的不同，有相应的接待规格。从到达一直到外宾回国，礼法繁富，表示国与国之间互相尊重。
春秋时代重视礼法，孔子对礼法有深入研究，因此在接待外宾时，仪容、仪态都符合礼仪，对行礼程序又非常熟悉。 |
