BEC五重奏

（一） 初生牛犊不怕虎，誓当好汉闯梁山
初入大学，每个人都为选修课而烦恼，当年大一的我也不例外。更何况深大的选课系统可谓是全国独一无二了，自由的同时也让我们碰到了不少的麻烦。每一门课，尤其是好的选修课都是你争我夺的。在浏览选修课的列表中，热爱英语的我不禁翻到了外国语学院的课表，突然一门叫“商务英语”的课深深地吸引了我的眼球。作为经济学院的学生，学商务英语似乎成了理所当然。然后这门课当时是为大二以上年级的同学开的，我不禁疑惑了：我能行吗？但是这个疑惑很快就被我坚定的信心击碎。我对自己说：我一定行！从此商务英语的学习之路展开了序幕。
When you enter university, you will feel bored with choosing optional courses. It was the same with me when I was still a freshman. Moreover, the course-selecting system in my school, Shenzhen University is quite unique that every course, especially good optional course will confront a fierce competition among the students. When looking through the courses list, I could not help flipping to the page of foreign languages. All of a sudden, a course named “Business English” drew my eyes. As a student in Business College, it seemed common for me to learn business English. However, the course was set for sophomores or students of higher grade. Therefore, I could not help casting doubt on my own ability to learn it well. But it was soon smashed totally by my self-confidence. I said to myself that I could surely learn it well. Then my journey of learning business English took off!
上课，做笔记，查字典，读课文，一切显得这么自然与轻松，让我乐在其中。得到老师的赏识，后来还做了PPT到讲台上去做presentation， 热情洋溢地用英语回答了下面同学的提问，我为我的英语感到无比的自豪。当时我并不知道我所学的只是商务英语的冰山一角，还沾沾自喜。突然有一次上课，一个坐在我旁边的师姐指着她的另一个同学对我说：“师弟，她的商务英语很厉害，考过了BEC中级的。”“什么是BEC？”我满脸疑惑地问她。师姐叫我上网查。等我查到了相关的信息时，我才发现自己所学的简直是九牛一毛，同时也下定决心，大二要考过BEC中级！
Since then, I took classes, took notes, look up the dictionary and read the textbook all the way. Everything seemed so natural and relaxing, which made me totally bathe in the great pleasure. Out of the great appreciation from my teacher, I made a PPT and conducted a presentation in class, answering all the questions raised by students with great passion in English. I felt quite proud of my English. However, at that time, I did not know what I had learnt was only a tip of an iceberg. I even felt arrogant about myself. In a usual class, one of my senior classmate pointed another student and said to me, “Do you know her? Her business English is amazing and she has passed the BEC Vantage.” “What is BEC?” I asked in great confusion. She just asked me to check on line by myself. After I got the relevant information about BEC, I came to realize that what I learnt was really tiny and meantime resolved to pass BEC Vantage when I was a sophomore!
（二）有志者，事竟成，破釜沉舟，百二秦关终属楚
自从决定了考BEC以后，学英语的目的明确了很多，激情也比以前更足。经过我的解说，我的好朋友王冰华决定和我一起奋战。路就在前方，剩下的就是看我们怎么用汗水和辛劳去实现我们的理想。
After I made up my mind to challenge BEC Vantage, my goal became much clearer and I had more passion than ever before. After my explanation on BEC, my good friend Wang Bingwa also decided to take the exam with me. The road was lying ahead and it was time for us to use our sweats and hard work to realize our dreams!
奋战的日子，一点也不轻松。中级的难度对于我们当时的水平难讲一点也不简单。当时我们对BEC了解甚少，也没有参加任何的培训，只能靠买的资料书来逐渐参透其中的奥妙，同时根据做题不停地调整我们的学习方法。每周的三四次的口语练习成了我们最快乐的时光。我们采用你问我答或者辩论的形式对相关的商务英语话题进行讨论，直到最后一个月我们才根据考试的模式来进行练习。但由于口语的功底打扎实了，后面的练习一点困难也没有，进度也越来越快。
During the days of striving, it was nothing sweet. The difficulty of BEC Vantage was a great challenge to us given our insufficient level. Worse still, we knew so little about it and did not attend any professional training. We could only rely on some books to interpret how to combat it and meantime adjust our learning methods according to the exercise we did. It was the happiest moment when we gathered to practice oral English for 3 or 4 times a week. We took the form of asking-and-answering or debating to discuss related business English topics. Not until the last month did we start practicing according to the real requirements of the examination. But as our foundation had been solidly laid, it was not difficult for us to practice, and our procedure was fast on the track.
终于到了最后的决战时刻了。依旧记得文科楼考场的人潮汹涌，依旧记得各位考生们焦虑的面容，依旧记得自己加速的心跳，依旧记得考完听力后大家拼命抱怨的情景，当然也记得考完口语后和同伴的会心一笑。
The final moment came at last. I still remember the moving crowd in the exam venue, the anxious face of every candidates, the accelerating beats of my heart and the groans about the listening part from the students after the exams. Of course, I also remember the gleeful smiles to my partner after the oral test.
经过两个月的漫长等待，结果终于出来了。当我用略微颤抖的手指输入我的考号时，知道自己过了，感到如释重负。虽然成绩不太理想，不过我并没有过份在意，因为我的最后目标是考高级，所以中级对我来讲只是一个驿站！用自己的汗水收获了第一份喜悦，BEC的学习之路将越来越宽广！
After two-month waiting, the result came out eventually. When I typed my candidate number in the website with my shaking fingers and learnt that I had passed, I felt a totally relief then. Though the result was not up to my expectation, I did not care too much, for my final target was the BEC Higher. Therefore, BEC Vantage was just a small stop for me during the whole journey. I had harvested the first pleasure with my sweats and the way to learn BEC was broadening with time passing by.
（三）苦心人，天不负，卧薪尝胆，三千越甲可吞吴
考完BEC，我已踏入大三的学习。究竟要不要考BEC高级，开始时我有点犹豫不决。一来我的中级考得不理想，我怕高级过不了。虽说自己觉得平时做题很好，只是考场发挥不好，但是毕竟还是心有余悸的。高级的难度比中级大很多，所以信心不太足。二来当时的我开始修第二个学位---会计，那个学期有35个学分的课程，在如此繁重的学业下我可以考过BEC高级吗？我不禁陷入了深深的疑虑。但是后来仔细一想，我决定要考！因为大三下学期我要准备雅思考试去香港留学，如果现在不考高级以后就没时间了，它将只能是我大学的一个梦想。另外一个原因就是我一直花了很大功夫在英语上面，我得对自己的水平有信心，报了名就算最后考不过也进步不少，何乐而不为呢？于是我报了名。
After finishing the BEC Vantage, I stepped into my third-year study. Whether I should take the BEC Higher was still haunting my mind and I became hesitant then. Firstly, my performance in Vantage was not good, so I was afraid I could not pass the Higher. Though I did quite well in usual exercise and did not exert my full talents in the real exam. I felt kind of anxious about the Higher. After all, the difficulty of BEC Higher was way beyond that of Vantage. So I did not have enough confidence. Secondly, I began to undertake my second academic degree’s study and had 35 credits to learn. I was wondering whether I could pass BEC Higher under such a great burden. I sank into thought deeply. But after second thought, I determined to take it! The reasons were as follows. First of all, I would have to prepare for the IELTS and my further education in HK, so if I did not take Higher then, I would have no time later and it would become my dream forever. Secondly, I thought I should have confidence in my English level. Even if I could not pass it, I would have made a huge progress. So why not take it? So I registered for the exam again.
这次备战比上次更加困难重重。一是因为上次报了中级的同学有些没有过，过了的同学也不敢报高级了，大家持观望态度，所以我一时之间找不到口语练习的伙伴，只能孤军奋战，倍感孤寂；二是因为高级的难度，尤其是听力比中级跃了一个大层次，我得花更多的时间和精力来应对，这把平时学英语当成是娱乐的我折磨得叫苦连天，只是这个苦是在心里叫罢了。由于学分很多，从早到晚不停地上课，我得争分夺秒地挤出时间来学BEC。那段日子恐怕是我大学生涯最辛苦的了，几乎没有周末可言，一直处于一种紧张的奋斗状态之中。
The preparation for the Higher was far tougher than that for Vantage. On the one hand, some of my classmates did not pass Vantage last time, and those who had passed dared not try Higher, so they were just looking at my performance. Therefore, I had no partner to practice my oral English and had to struggle alone. On the other hand, the listening part in Higher was much more difficult that that in Vantage, which made occupied me much more time and energy to combat. It had tormented me, a student who treated English learning as entertainment, to death. As I had a lot of credits at that time, I had to take classes all the day long. Hence, I had to squeeze every second to learn BEC. I am afraid that semester was the darkest time in my college life and the definition of weekend totally disappeared in my dictionary. I was living in a great tension.
然而最庆幸的是，不久以后我遇到了一个同考BEC高级的考友，经济学院的佘绍鑫师兄。从此我们成了口语的伙伴，一起并肩作战。那段一起练习口语一起探讨考试题目的日子，成了我的人生无比珍贵的记忆。也正是经历了两个月的共同奋斗，我们成了名副其实的铮铮战友，结下了深厚的情谊，成了挚友！BEC带给我的不仅是知识，还有宝贵的友情！
But luckily, before long I encountered a guy who also took the Higher. He was She Shaoxin, a student in Business College as well. Since then, we became partners and fought together. The days we practiced business English has become a priceless memory for me in my life. after undergoing tow months’ fighting hand in hand, we became bosom friends! BEC not only brought to me knowledge, but also precious friendship!
越临近考试，越感到很多东西没有学，很多单词没有记，越感到信心不足，越感到压抑。当时已经没有想到要考出什么好成绩了，只是想考过就行了。考试那天终于到了，可能有了考中级的经验，这次的我踏入考场以后显得出奇的平静，仿佛有一种视死如归的感觉。下午考完口语以后，终于彻底解放！不管结果如何，我已无悔！
The nearer the exam was approaching, the more I realized I did not learn, the more vocabularies I did not memorize and the more insufficient confidence I felt. I felt increasingly depressed. I did not place too much expectation on my excellent performance and merely wanted to pass it. That’s enough for me. When the final day befell, probably due to my last time’s experience, I showed great composure after I stepped into the classroom. After the oral test in the afternoon, I feel totally mentally liberalized. No matter what the result might be, I felt no regret!
春节过后可以查成绩了，这次的我依旧颤抖，比上次还厉害， 而当我知道我考出优异的成绩时，我忍不住对着电脑屏幕笑了出来，笑着笑着，突然感到一阵心酸，几欲落泪。往日奋战的日子再一次浮现在我有脑海里，被我翻得陈旧不堪拼命脱页的书浮现在我眼前，还有被听了一次又一次的听力光盘，一切一切都是如此的清晰，仿如昨日。突然发现：学英语来不得半点浮躁，来不得半点虚假，唯有踏踏实实地努力奋斗并且一直坚持下去，最后才可以到达成功的彼岸！
After the Spring Festival, I checked my score again with my shaking fingers. When I knew that I got a good score, I could not help laughing in the face of the computer. But soon my laughter turned into a kind of sour and bitterness in my heart, and I suddenly wanted to tear. The days of fighting again floated in my mind, and the used-to-be-broken books were seeming appearing in my eyes, and the listening CDs also came to me. Everything was so clear as if they just happened yesterday. I came to realize that there shall be no luck or impatience in learning English. Only those who learn English step by step and persevere until the end can finally reach their success!
（四）老吾老，以及人之老；幼吾幼，以及人之幼；天下可运于掌
自从以优异的成绩考过BEC高级以后，我的人生之路发生了重大的转折，赢得了更多的机遇与挑战。大三第二个学期，当时的我已经主持经济学院英语角一年多了。我们的英语角和其他的不同，我们是在课室里进行的，需要用到多媒体设备。鉴于深大考BEC的同学越来越多，我大胆地为英语角增加BEC口语练习，根据我的考试经验，指导帮助广大考生备考BEC口语，另外也在阅读，写作和听力方面给予中肯的建议。英语角的知名度更胜从前，尤其是第二部分的商务英语口语练习受到了广大考生的欢迎，甚至吸引了不少校外的考生来参加。同时我的知名度也不断扩大，各大英语网站争先转载我的文章，各种翻译兼职也接踵而至，至今为止我已经在几个培训中心了进行了三期的商务英语听说的培训，担任主讲老师，受到学生们的高度赞扬。这个学期我依旧担任经济学院BEC英语角的主持，和广大考生共度难关，也认识更多的朋友同学！BEC带给我的收获是无法计量的！
After passing the BEC Higher with excellent score, my life underwent a new turn that won me more challenges and opportunities. In the second semester of my third year, I had been host of the English corner for Business College for more than one year then. Our English corner was different from others in that it was conducted in the classroom and mass media facilities were needed. In terms of the increasing number of candidate of the BEC, I boldly added a business oral English practice to the English corner. I was the host again helping candidates to practice BEC oral English and giving them the pertinent advice on reading, writing and listening according to my profound experience. It made our English corner more prominent over the campus. The BEC oral English practice attracted a great number of students even outsider of our school. Moreover, my name is becoming well known and many large English websites have published my articles. I have received a lot of offers for translation jobs. Until now I have successfully accomplished three sessions of business English speaking and listening training in several training organizations. I was the teacher who won students’ high compliments. This semester I am still the host of the English corner and have gone through all the difficulties of BEC with a vast amount of students. At the same time I met a lot of friends there. What BEC has brought to me are countless.
（五） 路漫漫其修远兮，吾将上下而求索
BEC虽然已经远去，然而它依旧影响着我生活的每一个方面。BEC带给我的的一切中，最重要的是让我认识到英语学习之路还很漫长很漫长，要想达到自己想要的成功，必须要付出更大的努力！有志者事竟成，在些祝愿各位还在BEC征途上努力的考友们以及各位英语爱好者在英语学习的路上越走越远！
Though BEC has gone farther and farther from me, it is indeed affecting every aspect of my life. Among all the benefits BEC brought to me, the most significant thing is that it renders me realize there is a lot to go in the way of learning English. No pains, no gains. Where there is a will, there is a way! Here I would like to extend my best wishes to those who are on the way of combating BEC and those who love English from the bottom of their heart!
