All the panic and concern had dissipated along with the ending of the interview held by Dublin University in our Business School yesterday afternoon. A couple of days ago, many teachers and classmates asked me about my application for the schools in HK, but I had to tell them that I was still waiting for the offer. I am not the only one who meets this situation. Many of my classmates, as long as they applied for the course in Business School in HK, also did the same. All of us sank into the mist of desperation. One year ago, I thought that applying for schools in HK was not very difficult, because I knew some of my senior schoolmates who had successfully applied and their academic performance as well as the score of IELTS was not better than mine. Due to the short distance between HK and Shenzhen, as well as HK’s first-class education, I decide to study there. I can still go back home often. But when it is my turn to apply, the number of applicants has increased drastically this year by twice or even three times! That may be the reason why I have to wait endlessly. As our school is not famous, universities in HK will definitely give their priority to students in famous school, and then us. Though many people told me the final applying result tends to come out late, maybe in May or even July, I feel discouraged and hopeless.
Later I phoned a teacher, Ms Yue, inquiring about Dublin university. Then harboring an attitude of simply trying, I handed in the materials of my academic performance and IELTS score. The night before, I was informed to receive interview at 12:30 the next day. Therefore, I spent some one hour looking through the school’s website and the relevant information about the course I was going to apply for. I arrived at the venue at 12:30 on time, realizing that there were a huge amount of people standing nearby. Pressure amounted in my mind. Actually I was not afraid of the interview itself, especially when it came to English interview, coz’ it was not my first time to do it and I was totally experienced. The second reason was that I showed great confidence in my spoken English. Whatever I was asked of, I could answer satisfactorily. As there were too many students waiting to be interviewed, and I was arranged to be the last one, I felt speechless about the arrangement and had to wait and wait. During the course of waiting, I chatted with some students and realized all of them were super. Compared with them, I was somewhat humble in my study. Every time a student came out of the office, everyone would circle him or her to ask what was going on.
接着我调侃式地说:“I am the last one to be interviewed in this group, but I also hope that I will still be a one to receive an offer!” 他听了忍不住笑了起来,说了一句:“Yeah, it is up to your performance, not my subjective decision.” 第一个是“Why do you choose our school and choose accounting as your preference?” 第二个是:“What is the greatest difficulty you have ever met in your life and how did you overcome it?” 最后他赞了我一句:“Your English is perfect. You will definitely get an offer from our school!”
It was my turn finally! I went into the office and greeted the interviewer by saying “Good afternoon, Sir!” he reponded to me kindly and kept a smile all the time. Then I jokingly said, “I am the last one to be interviewed in this group, but I also hope that I will still be a one to receive your offer!” Hearing this, he could not help laughing and said, “Yeah, it is up to your performance, not my subjective decision.” Then he began asking me questions. First of all, he aske me about my academic performance and the score of IELTS. Then he asked me two questions that I was sure he did not asked any other student. One of them was “Why do you choose ouru school and choose accounting as your preference?” Thank Goodness! I had looked through their web the night before, so I knew how to tailor my answer. The second question was “What is the greatest difficulty you have ever met in your life and how did you overcome it?” I guessed I had practised this topic for thousands of times, so I gave the answer very quickly and fluently. I was not sure whether I had spoken something humorous. The interviewer was laughing happily, though I felt what I said was nothing funny. But still I had to laugh at the same time to show my manners. Many of my classmates later asked me why we laughed so loudly in the office and I did not know how to answer. Aha! Finally he complimented me by saying “Your English is perferct, and you will definitely get an offer from our school!” Hearing this, my floating heart got back to the group. I had meant to chat with him for an extra moment, but as the second group’s interview still did not conclude, the students there would be re-arranged to our group. So in order not to occupy other students’ time, I left.
Here I would like to express my wholehearted gratitude to my friends and classmates. I would like to deliver my gratefulness to Ms Yue who provide me with related information and helped me out of troubles. Actualy many teachers in our school offices are very kind, which makes us fully sense the warmth of our school. The next one I would like to thank is Zhanling who shared with me some precious experience the night before I went to the interview. He told me a typical sentence that if you want the interviewer to smile to you, you must smile to him first! Maybe that is why I could make the interviewer laugh happily. Actually I am not a very serious man in life and often play around with my friends. I also want to thank Gloria who bought KFC for me the night before. Actually I was somewhat hesitant whether I should eat the big hamburger or not, because inside the hamburger there was a large piece of fried chicken that might cause my throat to be hoarse. But at last I was defeated by its charm. After finishing KFC, I was too full to move in my chair. Finally I would like to thank all my fellow students who also received interview for their support and encouragement.  I learnt later that many students received offers and felt happy for them. I wish we could fly to the school together in the future! Aha!
