有一天，哲学家带着弟子们来到了平原。
One day, a philosopher took his students to a vast plain.
“你们已经不用再学什么了，这里有很多杂草，而我想要知道除掉这些杂草的好方法，这就是我的最后一道试题。”
“You do not need to learn anything for the moment. There are a huge amount of weeds everywhere in this plain and I want to know the best method in your mind that can root out all weeds. This is my last assignment for you.” The philosopher said.
弟子们面面相觑，他们知道老师一直在研究深奥的真理，因此乍一听到如此简单的问题，反而不知道该怎么办。片刻后，其中一个弟子率先答道：
“用手拔掉就可以了。”
All his students were looking at each other with great confusion. They had learnt that their teacher was studying some profound philosophy, but they did not expect that he would ask them such a simple question, thereby feeling too shocked to answer immediately. After a while, one student said, “We can root out all weeds by hands.”
另一个弟子说道：
“利用锄头的话会更轻松一些。”
Another student said, “Maybe using hoes will be far easier.”
最后一个弟子的答案更加简单：
“烧掉就可以了。”
The last student provided an even simpler answer, “Just set fire to it!”
老师静静地听完他们的答案，最后说道：
“好，那你们用各自的办法来除掉这些杂草吧，然后一年后再来这里。”
After listening to all of their answers, the philosopher said, “Ok. So you can use your own method to eliminate all the weeds and remember to come back here after one year.”
一年后，三名弟子如约在这里聚首。这里和去年一样，依然有着茂盛的杂草，但老师的身影却不见了。在他们去年讨论的地方，弟子们找到了老师研究一生的笔记和一张纸条：
“如果想把这里的杂草全都除掉，方法只有一个，那就是种庄稼。”
After one year, three students met up in the same plain as promised. Little change had taken place in the plain and there were still bushy weeds everywhere. But they could not see their teacher. From where they discussed last year, they found a notebook that recorded the philosopher’s lifetime studies and a note: “If you want to root out all the weeds here, there is only one way: grow crops!”
