夜深了, 累了一天, 本来也该睡了, 可是一想起今天在地铁所经历的事情, 我就感慨良多, 觉得非常有必要写下来.
今天早晨八点半, 我像往常一样出门去上班. 在等待地铁时, 不知为什么皮肤过敏又犯病了, 我的脸, 脖子和手臂顿时起了一块又一块的红疹, 奇痒难耐. 一般来说我只是在感到热的时候才会过敏的, 而今天早晨的天气是很清凉的, 本来是不会过敏的, 因为我感到相当的郁闷.而且我过一会还要教雅思课的, 要是让学生看到我发病的情景, 恐怕真的会吓死他们. 幸好我随身带了一些抗过敏的药, 于是我当场吃了一粒, 希望过敏症状快点消失.
在地铁上, 虽然我全身很痒, 可是我并没有去抓它. 一来我知道皮肤过敏会越抓越严重, 所二来是因为我已经习惯了这种痒了, 现在我已经不觉得这种痒对来说是折磨了. 看着我发红的手臂, 我感到既无奈又尴尬, 因为地铁上所有在我身边的人都盯着我, 好像我变成了另类的人物. 那一刻我真的想找个地洞钻进去. 这个过敏症我上网查过, 是遇热型的胆碱能性荨麻疹, 很难治好的, 是慢性病. 自从我大一下学期莫名其妙地过敏了一次后, 这个病就一直缠着我, 而且发作得越来越频繁. 这五年来已经让我吃了不少苦了. 吃苦还是小事, 最痛苦的是在一些重要场合, 比如说一些集体活动或者聚餐, 要是我突然过敏的话会很吓人, 让别的成员感到担心. 反正, 我一想起这个恼人的病, 我就很烦燥, 心里一直在嘀咕自己为什么这么倒霉得了这么一个折磨人的皮肤过敏症. 我越想就越伤心, 而且时不时叹一下气, 突然觉得自己很可怜.
正当我为这个病自怨自艾之际, 地铁到了一个站. 门徐徐地打开, 透过玻璃门, 我看到外面人群林立, 大家都在等着进地铁. 当人群都挤进地铁后, 还有一个戴着墨镜的人拿着一根棍子缓缓地向地铁走来. 我仔细一看, 突然觉得心里一惊: 这是一个盲人. 只见他拿着一根长长细细的棍子, 慢慢地在前面探路, 迈着细小但沉稳的步伐缓缓地走向地铁门. 整车的人都在盯着这个即将进入地铁的盲人, 心里都有点为他捏了把汗. 当盲人的棍子探到地铁与平台的缝隙时, 他怔了一下, 显然他知道了那是一个缝隙. 但很快他就继续往前走. 由于当时我就站在门边, 于是忍不住走了出去, 去将那位盲人扶了进来, 一来是怕他摔跤了, 二来是地铁快要关门了, 他再慢点就进不来了. 他连声向我道谢. 我仔细打量他, 感觉他才三十五六岁的样子. 在人生的壮年, 他却瞎了眼睛, 一辈子都要在黑暗中度过了. 而且我们只是看到他现在瞎了, 还不知道他瞎了多久, 说不定他已经瞎了十几二十年了. 想到这里, 我不免感到一阵心酸, 因为我无法想象, 一个人如果失去了光明, 生活会变成怎样. 可是再看看眼前的这位盲人: 只见他面目祥和, 面露微笑, 让人在清凉的初冬感到一阵暖意, 一丝希望.
不一会, 又到了另一个地铁站, 盲人要出站了. 我又把他扶出车门, 但是除此之外, 我已经帮不了他什么了. 我不能把他护送到目的地, 因为我还没到站, 还要再进入列车. 走进列车, 门又徐徐地关上. 透过玻璃和人群, 我一直注视着他一边用棍子探路一边缓慢地前行, 直到列车启动, 直到我再也看不到他的身影. 在车上, 我不停地想: 他要到哪个地方去? 他每天都这样一个人从家里来到地铁吗? 家里有没有人照顾他呢? 我越想就越不安, 替他感到担忧.
突然间, 我感到自己其实已经很幸福了, 真的很幸福. 虽然我的身体有一些小毛病, 比如说皮肤过敏, 但是总的来说, 我还是很健康的. 最重要的是, 我每天睁开眼可以清晰地看到这个美丽的世界, 这已经是上天给予我最大的恩赐了! 还有什么比得上光明对我们来得重要? 没有了光明, 有再多的钱, 荣誉和地位又有什么用呢? 突然, 我想起了海伦凯勒写的>, 心里不禁感到既忧伤又激动! 海伦凯勒在出生十九个月后就因为疾病而失去视力. 从>中, 我们足以可以看出作者是多么渴望再次看到这个美丽的世界, 哪怕就这么一眼!
对于盲人来讲, 他们渴望的最大的幸福, 就是可以重新看到阳光草地, 看到每一个人的笑脸; 而反观我们正常人, 其实是多么身在福中不知福啊! 很多时候, 我们把与生俱来的一些能力当作是理所当然, 并不觉得它们有什么珍贵. 而只有当我们失去时, 我们才会发现, 原来我们在健康时才是最幸福的! 当我们健康无碍时, 我们会为很多世俗的事情而心烦意乱, 甚至自暴自弃, 更严重的是自毁生命, 丝毫没有意识到我们其实已经处在幸福之中了. 而当我们失去健康时, 我们才会幡然醒悟, 可是那时已经为时已晚了! 反观自己, 突然觉得, 我没有必要再抱怨自己的皮肤过敏症, 更没有必要为它感到郁闷生气, 自怨自艾, 因为这并不是什么大病, 只不过让我偶尔在人群中尴尬一下罢了. 比起那位盲人的遭遇, 我这点病根本不算什么!
突然间, 我感到一阵放松与释然! 望着手臂上因为药物作用而逐渐消失的红疹, 我忍不住微笑起来. 我甚至还近乎疯狂地想: “为什么会这么快康复呢? 红疹们你们就再红一点吧, 我现在已经不把你们放在眼里了!” 是的, 哪怕我的过敏症再严重, 我也不会觉得特别伤心了, 因为我知道, 生活在光明的世界里, 我已经很幸福了!
地铁终于又靠站了, 这次我要出站了. 走出地铁口时, 望着朝阳和白云, 我忍不住深深地呼吸了一下, 再贪婪地望着四周的景物, 突然觉得, 一切车水马龙都是世间的好风景! 也就是那一瞬间, 我突然更加深刻地感悟到一句话的含义: 一直和过得比自己好的人对比的人只会越来越悲惨, 而经常和比自己悲惨的人对比的人, 则会过得越来越幸福.

Learning Journal

Introduction
My journal provides details about my learning development in the BEC training class during this one and half months. This learning journal will identify the key themes that are most impressive and valuable to me. Also, it will include the development of my learning approach, learning attitude, and thinking pattern towards my own study.
This learning journal consists of six sections. The first section is the introduction, which is exactly being done now. The second section is about the impressive commercial terms and knowledge I have learned, in which I will use a lot of illustrations from various sources such as diary entries, journal article reviews, group case report, etc, to demonstrate my insights in and reflections on what I have learnt. While the third section mainly concentrates on my personal improvement. In this section, I will overview what extent of improvement do I have achieved. The fourth sections is to state my learning methodology change, and the last section is the concluding comments on completing this learning journal.
Impressive Commercial Terms& Knowledge
It is my first time to read journal article and write a summary. Actually, I can’t say it is no difficulty for me to read through the article. But I do try my best and in final, I realize that my reading speed has been tremendously improved, but for the deep understanding of the article, I still have a long way to go.
The 1st case study: Mengniu
The clue of the article is very clear and easy understood. And by studying this article, I knew Mengniu’s operational model, its supplying chain and unique corporate culture. When I began to write this summary, I was considering how to organize its structure and how many parts should I divide in order to show the clear logics and brief overview of this article. After deep reading the article three times, the clues came into being in my mind and I finished this summary smoothly.
In addition, I also searched on the Internet to refer to some relevant materials about the difference between Mengniu and Yili, and distinguished their marketing strategies, supply and promotion channels, their core products and target costumers , which really gave me provoking thinking of a corporate management.

My first journal article review: Living with complexity
Honestly speaking, the first time I read this article, I felt it was tough for me to fully understand its main idea because of the chaotic structure and too many new words. After skimming several times I had caught its main points but still felt stressful to write a journal with nearly 800 words. I had tried my best to utilize a variety of words and phrases to organize my article’s structure and ensure that every point is clear and logical. In final, I felt so proud to complete such a great task. Following is my insight and critiques reflecting on the journal article review:
To be honest, I regarded complicated as complex before reading this article, I did not realize they were totally different systems in today’s business world. After thinking in depth, I think we are also living and studying in a complex environment, everything is changing and you never know what will happen next second. Because of so many unexpected elements, we should break our cognitive limits and try to adjust ourselves to adapt the changeable environment quickly.
I agree with the view of “intentional blindness” in the article, focusing on one thing can prevent us from seeing others. For most of us, it is difficult to see an issue comprehensively, especially stay in complex surroundings. Therefore, improving the forecasting skills and mitigating the risk can help us to better in charge of the situation. Hence, when surrounded in a complex system, it is wise to mitigate risks by taking feasible steps, making measured tradeoffs that keep early failures small and gathering diverse thinkers to increase the chances of success.

My presentation topic: Google
Here is my diary about my feelings after finishing the presentation and its report：
Actually, I am not familiar with Google’s development in China. And this week, I have been preparing for the test and interview of UCD as well as the piano competition, which result in lacking communication with Allen. After discussing several times online, we designated our own assignment, I was responsible for PPT and Allen was accountable for the deep thinking of the report. I can’t say both of us are cooperating perfectly because for the PPT presentation, we disappointed our audience, they expected the presentation should be vivid and impressive. However, we just stated some key points with monotonous tune. Allen had tried his best to recite his main part and showed his opinion as detailed as possible. While I just made some clear points and illustrated them shortly and simply. After the presentation, we found that though our PPT was attractive and refreshing, we lack communication with the audience, which resulted in an atmosphere of boring, humdrum and mundane. This experience provoked me to think my attitude when going a presentation. First I lack passion to lift the audience spirit, and then my speech was not vivid and vibrant, which cannot catch their attention to focus on the PPT. I think since then I will make more efforts to revitalize my tone and cultivate my sense of humor to increase more communication with the audience.

In addition, we also think about the impacts of Google’s leave from China on different groups, which has reviewed in our report as follows:
To Google: It loses a large market which is the most prosperous and potential in the Internet competition .
To internet companies of China: native IT companies get a huge chance to expand their market share. However, like every coin has its two sides, chance were not sized, native companies would lose energy for lack of competition
To netizen: We sustain the biggest loss. On one hand, we can't relate to the world especially politics of china in the eyes of foreigners. On the other hand, some high level services provided by Google are not available to us such as earth of Google, academic search.
To the Chinese government: It is a double sword. Firstly, it avoids worried about spreading of information that violate our sovereignty and harmony society. Secondly, a bad impression that china limits free speech further on the web is left to foreigners even Chinese. Misunderstanding between the west and China may erupt. It also strikes confidence of transnational corporations to invest in China.

Personal improvement
Through the high tense training over one months, I feel that not only my reading speed has greatly improved, but my attitude on learning English, my confidence in English as well as my thinking light of different things have totally changed.
Reading speed
To be honest, I am not confident in reading, because I cannot catch the main idea quickly in my first read; I have to read 2 or 3 times to grab the points, which also result in the failure of IELTS Reading. However, after reading 12 journal articles, I realize that my reading ability has improved a lot. Now I am familiar with reading English journals and able to catch its main idea quickly, which of course do a lot of help in my coming IELTS exam and my master study in UCD next year.
Attitudes and confidence in learning English
I think I am an English lover, but I am not quite strict with the English grammar and lack perseverance to study it in depth. After Edison’s instruction, I realize how shameful I am to call myself as an English lover. His enthusiasm for English and sound grammar base really move me and inspire me to change my attitude on learning English. In addition, the two-minute’s presentation is also a good platform to encourage me to speak loudly and practice my oral English.
Expanded thinking light
After Edision’s class, I find that he has insights in thinking different aspects around one topic, though sometimes I am not in favor of some of his opinions, I do learn a lot, no matter in the aspects of consideration, social relationship, interpersonal skills.
Analytical abilities
During one month training, I have acquired many useful practical and analytical skills, such as positive and negative analysis for an issue, SWOT analysis for a company and the predicting ability of an issue’s following development, etc.
Learning Methodology Change
The biggest change of my learning methodology is the means to recite new words. Because of the weekly dictation, I have to recite the new words as well as revise the learned words, which really help me to strengthen my memory and get rid of the bad habits.
Besides, I also learn some useful skills such as distinguishing two similar words like “stationary” and “stationery”, the most effective way is to remember them by associating with some relating words. For example, stationary is like still or fixed, stationary cost equals fixed cost. And stationery can be associated with eraser and pencil because they all have the same letter “e”. It is really efficient to recite new words in this way.
On top of that, I have acquired the skills of giving a presentation. First, you should be confident to stand on the stage, and let yourself be the focus at present. Second, focus people’s attention on your speech by communicating with them frequently and adding some jokes to revitalize the atmosphere. Last but not least, make sure that your PPT is eye-catching and outline the key point, which can make the audience catch your main point quickly and better understand what you want to express.
With regards to the group discussion, I think clear delegation is very important. Frankly speaking, the group discussions I have done before was a bit time-consuming, no one was clear about what his task or main objective is, which caused low efficiency. This time, before doing PPT, I told Allen what part should we be responsible for and when to finish our own tasks and discuss. And by delegating work clearly, we have greatly improved time-efficiency and work process, but the drawback is that we still neglect effective and timely communication, this result in imperfect cooperating during the presentation.
Conclusion
I have learned a lot during this significant training, and Edison is really an eligible, outstanding and excellent teacher. He is very smart and knows everyone’s background detail. What surprise me most is that he can point out accurately what my grammar shortcoming is; I really admire his insight and observing ability. After experiencing one-month high tense training, I not only acquire the academic knowledge, but learn a lot of practical learning skills and think an issue in depth from different aspects. Concurrently, I have realized my English level and know how to improve it by working hard. I am deeply influenced and inspired by Edison’s passion and persistence in learning English. Therefore, English will become my lifelong friend and accompany me in every aspect of life. I think I should be confident of my English and practice speaking it every day. Though I have refused the January offer of UCD, I am confident that I can pass the IELTS examination and save the fee of preparatory course. I am appreciative to attend such a significant class to expand my knowledge scope and know the drawback of my English study. In brief, I see the value of English in my life and will persist in learning it forever long. |
