Information age
深圳大学  赖小琪
Long time ago, it was a tough thing for people to touch each other, especially when the counterpart was terribly distant. People used to send letters to his friends or relatives with the aid of a postman who ran a horse across vast areas. Some people might also run the risk of losing the letter by tying it to the feet of a pigeon and fly it to the direction of the destination. It used to take half a month even several months before the letter finally arrived where it was supposed to.
Later, with the swift development of our posting network, our letter can be carried by postmen who are equipped with efficient traffic vehicles which greatly promotes the safety and the time for delivery of the letter.
But now, it is a totally different story. Though written letter is still existing in our society, its popularity has declined enormously due to the emergence of telephone and the Internet, which ushered in a new era in which communication becomes extremely speedy and convenient. Now we just need to open our laptop and type on the keyboard a letter, then simply press a button and it will be transferred across thousands of miles to the potential receiver in less than one second. Or we can simply pick up our phone and chat with our friends whenever and wherever we want regardless of distance. How fantastic!
In this information age, apart from the efficient means to transmit our message, we still have greater access to diversified information, and more wonderfully, we can acquire our needed information in a short time. For instance, in the past if a student was meant to compose a thesis, he was supposed to be swamped in piles of books in the library and probably at last, he still could not seek out his expected data. But now, the rapid development of internet has spared us the countless troubles caused by the library. What we need to do is sitting in front of the computer and search what we want through surfing the net. We can pinpoint our target information without looking through numerous books, which considerably elevates our work efficiency and quality!
However, as every coin has two sides, Internet also has its inevitable drawbacks. Though we can access far more information than ever before, we are bathing into so much information that sometimes we may also have no idea which is useful and which is not, which is true and which is fake. In this information-booming age, it is vitally significant for us to have the capability to identify the valid information we need!
Altogether, the growing of internet does far more good than harm to our lives, and I firmly believe it can exert more positive impact on various aspects of our lives in the future!
